“We’ve been eating halva for as long as we can remember, since we were probably 5 years old. It was a weekend breakfast treat that we would spread on a bagel,” says Eric Hebel, who founded halva company Hebel & Co. in 2017 with his brother, Scott, and Scott’s wife, Katie. The brothers’ parents were born and raised in Israel, and after decades of enjoying the sesame-based Middle Eastern sweet, they decided to try their hand at it.

Scott takes the lead in dreaming up classic and creative flavors, such as dark chocolate-filled Chocolate Chunk Halva and Potato Chip & Chocolate Hazelnut Halva. “They are all our children, we don’t choose favorites!” Scott says of his creations.

But the best thing for the brothers by far is bringing their beloved breakfast to other families.

“It’s amazing,” says Scott. “I still get a little bit sentimental and emotional thinking about it because it’s very much a fond memory for myself and Eric, that it has such a tie to our childhood. And making a business from this is a very beautiful thing, I think.”
