Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street is seeking a part-time Cooking School Manager for its Boston-based cooking school.

We are seeking a part-time (30 hours/week) manager for our Boston-based cooking school. Successful candidates will be creative and strategic educators and organized managers. They will be calm under pressure, nimble in response to change, and great with the public. They will also have professional educational experience and/or cooking experience. All Milk Street Cooking School employees draw inspiration from tradition and innovation, and are passionate about student learning. This position reports directly to the Director of Education. The Education Department encourages manager-level employees to be active participants in the growth of the department and fosters a work environment that allows for such participation.

POSITION OVERVIEW & DUTIES

  • Coordinating the day-to-day operations of hands-on cooking school, including:
  • Developing school calendar and lesson plans, in conjunction with the Director of Education
  • Serving as lead teacher for 2-3 cooking classes/week, including 2+ weekends/month
  • Coordinating preparatory work for cooking classes, including food ordering, class material printing, communication with students and staffing
  • Maintaining and maturing an already active volunteer program
  • Executing marketing plans designed by interdepartmental team
  • Careful budgeting associated with classes at Boston school
  • Assisting with the development and execution of our private events program
  • Promoting and managing sales and inventory of Milk Street Store products
  • Developing clear business- and mission-based goals and strategies
  • Creating effective environments for inquiry- and problem-based learning
  • Helping students discover how to become great and curious home cooks
  • Maintaining cooking school and shared facility and equipment
  • Collaborating with colleagues across departments

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Dependable, flexible, self-motivated and hardworking team player
  • Creative and strategic project manager
  • Superlative interpersonal skills with members of the public, colleagues and community partners
  • Experience in an educational context, ideally culinary-based classrooms
  • Professional cooking experience highly preferred; a committed home cooking practice may be acceptable for extraordinary candidates
  • Comfort with and excitement for mistakes and failure, and the ability to productively learn from both
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Strong computer skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, ideally in culinary arts or education
  • 4+ years experience teaching, ideally a hands-on cooking-based curriculum
