Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street is looking for a Creative Director to oversee the art department. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about design, media, e-commerce and preferably food. You will be working hands-on managing and art directing a team of art directors, designers, developers, photographers and production staff. You will also be managing up to the founder of the company, Christopher Kimball. You have a strong understanding of brands, trends, digital design, and photography as well as project management, budgeting and working collaboratively with fellow department heads in fulfilling the vision of the company. The candidate should have extensive creative director experience and thrive in a fast-paced setting. No applicants will be accepted without a cover letter.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the art department by hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, and mentoring staff.
  • Work closely with AD of Print and Photography, Production Manager, Magazine Designer, Email Designers, Digital Marketing Designers, freelance Product Packaging Designers and Product Photographers.
  • Develop and oversee compelling creative visual assets across all media including: digital marketing (web, landing pages, email, social, paid), Ecommerce (store, product photography and packaging design), Milk Street TV and Radio, Milk Street Cooking School, Print (Cookbooks and Milk Street Magazine), Photography and Digital Asset Management systems.
  • Lead and shape the evolution of the Milk Street brand and champion the value of design within and across the company.
  • Establish art department standards for production, productivity, and quality.

Ideally, applicants will have the following skills:

  • You have a strong background in branding and e-commerce design with at least 5+ years as a Creative Director.
  • You are passionate about design, food, and culture.
  • You have a strong understanding of how your art direction aligns with the business’ strategic intentions.
  • You have experience finding, hiring & mentoring in-house and freelance designers as needed and are able to delegate work and improve processes to increase team efficiency.
  • You are fluent in Adobe Suite programs and preferably have some knowledge of Sketch/Figma, InVision, etc. etc.
  • A background in e-commerce, editorial and food are a plus.
  • You have a great attitude and a total lack of ego.

This position is full-time, and qualifies for medical, dental and 401k, paid vacation, all major holidays off and half-day Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
