Broccolini is a hybrid of conventional broccoli and Chinese broccoli (gai lan). In this recipe, it first is seared, then steamed with a mixture of umami-rich oyster sauce and fragrant five-spice powder. (You will need a large skillet with a tight-fitting lid.) Deeply browned ground pork and fresh scallions complete the dish. If you like, top with a fried egg or two and serve with steamed rice.

A Broccolini Lovers Delight
A pretty easy one skillet dish that cooks quickly once all the ingredients are prepared. We were too hungry to wait on adding eggs to the top, but it was delish even without them. Oyster sauce is kind of salty so some may want to cut that ingredient down slightly if that is a concern. Next time I may add thin carrot strips for a little more color, but I would make this again.

Thoughts on substituting ground beef?

Hi Carolyn -

Slightly different flavor profile, but it should work the same!
