For this one-pot pasta dish, use either hot or sweet Italian sausage, or a mixture if you prefer. And you can up the red pepper flakes for added spice. To give the pasta a meatier, more savory quality, substitute 1 quart of low-sodium chicken broth for 4 cups of the water, but in that case, reduce the salt to ¼ teaspoon. The broccolini is added at the very end, so to be efficient, prep it while the pot comes up to pressure.

Tip

Don't forget to break the spaghetti in half so the strands lay flat in the pot. And when adding the pasta, make sure no pieces poke above the surface of the liquid. All of the pasta must be submerged to cook properly.

Simple and delicious
I made this for a crowd over Memorial Day weekend and it was as resounding hit. As stated above you do have to like fennel seed and it may seem like a lot to add but it gives a wonderful punch to the dish overall. Making pasta in the IP is a serious game changer.

Wonderfully simple and delicious
This simple recipe, with few ingredients, is so good. You need to like fennel seed, but if you do it's the hit of the dish. I've made this recipe with sweet Italian (pork) sausage, hot pork sausage, and turkey sausage, and they all came out great. This would probably work fine with regular broccoli, but Trader Joe's sells the broccolini (they call it baby broccoli) in 8-ounce packages so it works out perfect. I also use romano cheese instead of parmesan since that's what we usually have on hand.

Easy, but just okay
This is one of the easier recipes to make-especially if you buy bulk Italian sausage (then you don’t even have to cut off the casing), but to me, it’s just okay. I’m not a big fan of using the instant pot for pasta, as it seems to cook it beyond Al dente. And I used mild Italian sausage; maybe try hot for more flavor. Finally, I didn’t understand the purpose of adding water to the sausage, when you’re going to add more water later.

So delicious!
This recipe is easy to make and super delicious! This was the the first time I cooked pasta in the Instant Pot. I was surprised how fast it cooked. I'll be making this recipe again and again.

Where are the non-instant-pot instructions for this recipe? There is no indication that this is an instant-pot recipe anywhere except in the directions.

There is no non-instant pot version of this particular recipe, however, we have quite a few recipes with similar ingredients you could try. Perhaps the following: https://www.177milkstreet.com/recipes/pasta-with-sausage-and-broccoli-rabe

Quick, easy, tasty Instant Pot recipe. Yum, yum, yum!

I like adding the water to the sausage, its easier to get it in smaller pieces instead of big chunks when you don't.
